Development of National Health Promotion Programs in Korea

Abstract

|
This paper reviewed the background and several definitions of health promotion, introduced criteria for the development of health promotion programs prepared by the American Public health Association in 1986, and identified pattern of health
related
practices among Korean adults aged 20-59 using data collected through a nation wide sample survey conducted in 1989 and health risks among them based on the above mentioned data.
In addition, Key components of the National health Promotion Law newly promulgated in january 1995 were summarized with emphasis on program development, and strategies for a development of national health promotion programs in Korean context were
proposed with an expectation to stimulate discussions about health promotion programs in the country among health professionals.
